I never used to be a wreath person. Other than at Christmastime, I never hung a wreath on my door. No reason really, I guess I thought it was an old fashioned thing to do. Until now.
Now I love my wreaths, changing them out every couple months. And I love making them too.
My love affair with wreaths started when I was looking for some kind of home decor item to make and sell at my Etsy shop. Wreaths seemed easy enough to make, so I went with it. I found some pretty silk flowers, a grapevine wreath, whipped out my beloved hot glue gun and got to designing. My first one was this one:
I listed it on Etsy after some debate – I have a good friend who also sells wreaths on Etsy and was a bit torn about it. I didn’t want to steal her thunder, as they say. But after thinking about it, I decided our styles were different enough, her designs being more rustic and “country” and mine being well, not. That and the fact that there are several thousand wreaths for sale on Etsy.
In the end, I went ahead and listed it. And it sold within a couple of days {yipee!}. Thant was a first for me. And after seeing how beautiful it looked on my front door, I was hooked. I officially became a wreath person. My door will never be without a wreath now. {And p.s., my friend is totally fine with me designing and selling wreaths.}
Altogether, I’ve made 8 styles of wreaths. Not all have sold, but that’s ok, I’ll just save them to relist next spring, or maybe I’ll keep them for myself Every white one I,ve made has sold, though, and fast. There’s just something about a white wreath I guess, and I will say that those have been my favorites too. I’ve even been a bit sad to see some sell. Ok, not really. But there were a couple I would have loved to keep. Too bad for seasonal silk flowers. Why don’t the stores restock them more? I’m totally going to bring back the white ones next spring. Or design a white Christmas wreath…
Here’s a few of my past wreaths:
And here is my latest wreath:
My idea was to make a wreath that had a wintery/holidays feel that was pretty and flowery enough to work all season The silvery white color of the hydrangeas makes for a perfect winter style. I added some glittery pine accents to give it more of a holiday feel. I think it would be pretty all winter long. Before, during and after the holidays. I also plan on making some more festive holiday wreaths. Festive, but simple and pretty, with plenty of glitter of course. I love anything with glitter
If you love these wreaths too, hop on over to my Etsy shop and snatch one up. And be sure to favorite my shop and like Sweet Silly Chic on Facebook to be the first to know when new listings go up.
